Increasing numbers of British golfers are discovering the delights of a golfing holiday in the Costa Blanca region of Spain
The Costa Blanca runs from Valencia in the north to Torrevieja in the south and is a region renowned for its wonderful mild winter climate - one of the healthiest on earth, according to the 'World Health Organisation'.
The scenery is quite spectacular, with rugged mountain backdrops, sparkling blue sea and the golden sand of some of the most beautiful beaches in Europe. When it comes to nightlife and dining out there is something for everyone in this region. Whether staying in the cosmopolitan cities of Valencia and Alicante, or the vibrant tourist resorts of Denia, Torrevieja and Benidorm, you will find an abundant choice of excellent restaurants and atmospheric bars.
The average winter rainfall in the Costa Blanca is actually less than any other area of Spain, including the Costa del Sol, which is why more and more golfers are making this their winter golfing destination. There are many first class courses to choose from, all less crowded than their counterparts in the Costa del Sol or the Algarve and also less expensive. In the north near Valencia, El Saler was host to the 2001 Spanish Open and is rated one of the top five courses in Europe. Also in this area, El Bosque is rated number 5 in Spain.
One golf resort which has become a firm favourite with our golfers in recent years is the Villaitana Golf Resort Hotel on the outskirts of Benidorm. Set on the top of a hill overlooking the resort of Benidorm, and with its own two fine courses, Villaitana is the perfect location for combining a relaxing golf break with the lively nightlife of Benidorm.
Near Denia, we have Oliva Nova, considered by many to be Seve's best design, and La Sella, another fine course. The Alicante area has 4 excellent courses in Bonalba, Alenda, Alicante North and El Plantio. Further south, the resort of Torrevieja is within easy reach of the courses of Villamartin, Campoamor, Las Ramblas and the splendid La Finca.
