Orsett Golf Club was founded in 1899, celebrating its Centenary in 1999. The intervening 100 years has seen many changes to both the course and the clubhouse. Orsett Golf Club Ltd. is a private members club and is limited by guarantee. The key being that the members own the club and have input into the running of it.
The course is a 12 month a year course with it?s sand and gravel base. Unless there is major project work in operation the main tees and greens are in play throughout the year. During the last 12 months the course was shut for one day due to exceptional rain but unlike many of our neighbouring courses, the club was fully open the following day with trolleys in play. We have hosted the regional qualifying round of the Open Championship on no less than eleven occasions although the course is a fair test of golf for players of all handicaps. The benefit of Orsett is that other than tee closures for competitions etc. there is no booking of tee times. We benefit from having 3 starting holes, 1st, 6th, & 14th. On competition days the starting holes are the 1st and the 7th.ef
Orsett G.C was founded in 1899; this magnificent championship course designed by the legendary James Braid was firmly embedded into this piece of the Essex countryside. In the early years Orsett became a focal point for the local community to gather and enjoy their golf; even through the hard times of the two world wars.
Situated within 5 miles of the M25, this fine par 72 championship course (S.S.S. 73) has a demanding layout of over 6,600 yards.
In recent years Orsett has established itself as host to the regional qualifying round for The Open Championship no less than on 11 occasions.
Come rain or shine the course is renowned for its year-round playing surface, it?s established woodland and striking heath-land features, free draining soil, combined with the latest irrigation system contributes to a golf course of outstanding quality.
